Corts today hailed Gov. Bob Riley's government and tax reform proposal while renewing the call for Alabama's leaders to enact comprehensive constitutional reform. "ACCR applauds Governor Riley's effort to reform Alabama's unfair and inadequate tax structure," Corts said. It is gratifying that our Legislature is grappling with the failures of our tax system which have deep roots in our antiquated state constitution. We praise the Governor and the Legislature for their efforts. Certainly, a fairer tax system is one critical element of constitutional reform. At the same time, we renew our call on Gov. Riley and the legislative leadership to continue working for other meaningful and equally critical areas of reform such as home rule legislation and removing the racist and outdated language from the Alabama constitution. We look forward to working with Governor Riley and members of the legislature as we continue our efforts to give Alabama a constitution worthy of her people," Corts said. Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reforms mission is to provide credible, non-partisan advocacy of constitutional reform and to educate Alabamas citizenry about constitutional reform proposals. ACCR has an office in Montgomery and affiliates and memberships statewide. . "Bus Driver Diaries: Part 3" now available online
New installments of the Bus Driver Diaries are now available online.
Here is a sample of the Trussville diary entry:"I drove Monday morning to Trussville after spending the weekend in Birmingham for the Footsoldiers Reunion. Throughout the bus tour, I've managed to usually estimate the driving times fairly well and arrive just in time. Not so this morning. But instead of being late, I arrived in Trussville about an hour and a half in advance for some reason. Arriving early on the slow-moving bus is indeed a rarity. However, the time was well spent eating a healthy breakfast at Krystal while reading the Birmingham News and working on my speech."
