Resolution of the Council of Presidents

Alabama Commission of Higher Education

   Whereas, the Council of Presidents recognizes that the 1901 Alabama Constitution is cumbersome having 706 amendments enlarging the document to over 315,000 words; and

   Whereas, the Council of Presidents desires to have effective state government which supports education at all levels, primary, secondary, and higher education; and

   Whereas, the Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform, a grass roots, nonprofit organization has sponsored forums throughout Alabama to raise awareness for constitutional reform;

   Therefore be it Resolved that the Council of Presidents supports constitutional reform to help all of Alabama's citizens achieve a modern constitution in the 21st century.

Adopted this the 6th day of June 2001,
by the Council of Presidents
Jack Hawkins, Jr., Ph.D.
Chairman Council of Presidents
