Whereas, the Council
of Presidents recognizes that the 1901 Alabama Constitution is cumbersome
having 706 amendments enlarging the document to over 315,000 words;
and
Whereas, the Council
of Presidents desires to have effective state government which supports
education at all levels, primary, secondary, and higher education;
and
Whereas, the Alabama
Citizens for Constitutional Reform, a grass roots, nonprofit organization
has sponsored forums throughout Alabama to raise awareness for constitutional
reform;
Therefore be it Resolved
that the Council of Presidents supports constitutional reform to help
all of Alabama's citizens achieve a modern constitution in the 21st
century.
