Whereas, the Limestone
County Commission has deep concerns about the needs of its citizens
and the services that must be provided to allow Limestone County
to achieve its potential
in areas of industrial growth, environment and land use; and
Whereas, the Constitution of the State
of Alabama drafted in 1901, containing over 175,000 words,
over 600 amendments and 20 times as long as the United States Constitution
is outdated
and lacking in mechanisms that allow local governments to address
issues; and
Whereas, the Constitution of the State
of Alabama gives broad powers to legislative bodies,
earmarks 90% of the State revenue and provides for an inadequate
tax system.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Limestone
County Commission supports
by resolution constitutional change by
constitutional convention and ratified by Alabama voter referendum.
