Resolution #2001-1555
A resolution supporting the rewriting and passage of a new constitution for the state of Alabama

      WHEREAS, the Constitution of Alabama presently has over 700 amendments and
is more voluminous than any other state Constitution; and

WHEREAS,
the present Constitution prevents local governments from dealing with local problems and issues, and discourages citizens from participation in their government; and

WHEREAS, the enactment of a new state Constitution would benefit all citizens
of the State of Alabama by (i) shifting power to the people; (ii)
providing equality to all citizens; (iii) laying the foundation for a fair and equitable
tax structure; (iv) encouraging citizens to be actively involved in their state and communities;
(v) preventing narrow special interest from overruling an entire community and
(vi) creating opportunities for economic vitality and job growth.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the City of Pell City, Alabama,
that the City of Pell City supports the rewriting, with citizen input, and passage of
a new Constitution of Alabama, thereby making our government and state more efficient
and prosperous.

THIS 26th day of March 2001.

Guin Robinson, Mayor

ATTEST:
Marinda Gipson, City Clerk.
