WHEREAS, the
Alabama Constitution of 1901 is long, tedious and requires
amendment on amendment, and
WHEREAS,
the Alabama Constitution represents a legacy of discrimination
that detracts from the diversity we practice today, and
WHEREAS,
the Alabama Constitution unduly limits the powers of local governments
by distracting from the authority and responsibility of regularly
elected officials, and
WHEREAS,
the Alabama Constitution allows the Alabama Legislature to be distracted
from important statewide issues affecting our state, and
WHEREAS,
the origins of the Alabama Constitution encourages development
of special interest group powers at the state level.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED
that the Town of Ragland
supports the efforts to rewrite the Alabama Constitution to more effectively
govern the State of Alabama.
